I would also suggest that the GK was somewhat culpable by not anticipating a shot from distance and remaining on or near the goal line. Sure one can posit many "what-ifs" such as a possible pass; yet by dint of Mapi retreating, and without any other challenge by Spain occurring, it was fairly obvious that a shot would be taken..

I will say though if Mapi and other defenders are in the mindset that they are going to let opposition players take long distance shots, the goalkeeper has to be on the same page. Panos was poorly positioned which is interesting given that she could see the play unfolding as you said, and the fact that she plays with Mapi for both club and country means there should be a decent level of understanding between them.
